Emergency & Disaster Relief:
The Knoxville Academy of Medicine assisted our community in emergency and disaster relief during the Hurricane Katrina and Rita disasters. When the call came asking for vital medical supplies needed for the hurricane stricken area, the KAM Foundation gathered and sent vital medical supplies with Remote Area Medical for victims in the hurricane stricken area.  Many physicians and health professionals volunteered their help to assist these victims. KAM continues to work with local disaster planning organizations to be prepared to assist in case of an emergency or disaster.

Pandemic Influenza Planning:
We continue to attend planning meetings and educate ourselves so we can help others in the event of a Pandemic Influenza Outbreak.  The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have developed a checklist.

Health Education:
KAM has also sponsored many educational health seminars for the community and for physicians.

Grievance/Mediation
The Academy fields calls from the public regarding patient complaints on Knox County physicians.  The KAM Grievance Committee was formed to help mediate patient issues with their physician to avoid legal action and promote goodwill among the community.
