Tribute Gifts:
You may choose to make a donation to commemorate a holiday, birthday, wedding, or other special occasion. Include the name, specific occasion, and address of the person. An acknowledgement card of your donation will be sent to the person(s) you designate, and a copy sent to you for tax purposes.
Bequests:
Bequests of cash, securities, or other assets to the Foundation may be planned with your attorney through your will and the gift would be deducted from your estate prior to computing estate tax. Gifts could be a certain amount, or also be a percentage of your estate or another asset, or residual bequests which would be a portion of the remainder of the estate after other obligations or bequest have been distributed.
Sample Bequest wording:
“I give, bequeath $5,000 to the Knoxville Academy of Medicine Foundation, a qualified 501 (c) (3) charitable institution, located in Knoxville, Tennessee, to be used for its general purposes.”
Gifts of Stock:
Charitable deductions are allowed for the fair market value of gifts of securities on the date that the gift is made. These gifts of securities that have capital gains and have been held for more than one year can offer you tax advantages. You pay no capital gains tax on the appreciation of the assets.
