Interview Tips……
- Dress appropriately and professionally—better to overdress than underdress
- Hair should be neat and stylish
- Be sure of your directions and plan to arrive ten to fifteen minutes early
- Turn off your cell phone or pager
- Be friendly, confident, and enthusiastic
- Give a firm hand shake to your interviewer
- Wait to be seated until a chair is offered by your interviewer
- Have good posture and eye contact
- Be aware of your body language and try to look relaxed
- Use good grammar and speak clearly and avoid “uhs”, “you know”, and slang
- Carry extra resumes, reference information, etc. in a folder or portfolio
- Have pen and paper ready to jot down a few notes
- Be prepared to describe your skills, training, achievements and what you liked about past positions and briefly explain why you left
- Think of some good questions to ask your interviewer and be a good listener
- Indicate your level of interest in the position and thank your interviewer for considering you for the position
Things that make a poor impression….
- Heavy perfume
- Body odor or smoke odor
- Too much makeup/eye shadow
- Dirty hair or fingernails
- Extreme nail length or colors
- More than one earring per ear, brow rings, nose rings/studs, tongue rings, etc.
- Low cut or see through clothing or dressing too casual
- Using bad language
- Speaking negatively about past employers
